  • That’s sad. How would a child of that age even get involved in that?

  • coudln’t finish watching this.. so sad.

  • this is crazy

  • I watched this last year. That poor girl has gotta live with that from 8 – and it’s so likely she’ll relapse. :( :(

  • Wow.  I watched all of part one…I’ll have to do part two later.

You know, I knew there were kids that young but it’s just scarier when you have kids of your own.

  • I can’t watch all of this.  Reminds me of my sister in law and what she is putting my niece through! UGH!!!!!

  • This is really sad. These kids aren’t even fully developed yet and they already don’t want to or even can’t eat.
And there are kids who don’t want to eat because of their body image, which I think is really ridiculous. and those who simply just want to die.
*sigh what happened to today’s society.

  • I stopped at the title.
    It was heartbreaking.

  • this is so sad, she’s just a kid and she’s so beautiful and she’s doing this to herself.

  • i saw all of this when it was first showed, made me cry =[

  • This is so sad and shocking.  I didn’t know anorexia was so prevalent among younger girls.

  • Oh, why does this happen?

  • I have a daughter that is just a year older. This frightens me to no end. So very sad.

  • That is truly frightening.  I was anorexic in high school and have struggled with my body image all my life.  It wasn’t until I had a daughter myself that I sought help.  I didn’t want her to abuse her body like I had.  I hope many people watch this video.  I’m recommending!

  • yup i saw this a coupla days ago

  • so tragic. those poor girls, all of em…

  • I developed my eating disorder at age four.

    I feel for her. <3

  • i watched both parts.
    that’s… terrifying. to be honest.
and to think how beautiful and healthy looking her whole family looks, it makes you wonder, where on EARTH did she get the idea from?
i hope she remains healthy for the rest of her life.

  • That’s really sad… Reminds me of my little sister. She never wants to eat… I mean, it’s not anorexia, because she’ll be all over pizza and candy and ice cream and stuff like that, but she’s really skinny… =(

  • This is sad. I hope that she gets better.

  • Reminds me of myself at that age. =

“Dana was not the kind of child you would ever expect this to happen to.” I’m sorry, mother of Dana, but what exactly “kind of child” would you expect? You don’t. ANYONE can develop an eating disorder.

  • This is so sad. I have a daughter 7 and we have already started talking about being just right for her self.  I think it’s important that young girls understand that they are individuals, not some image from a TV show or Magazine or even the girl sitting next to her in school. She came home one day and declared that she was fat.  I asked her where she got that idea and she said the boys called her fat.  She is tall and thin. They were teasing and she listened.  We spoke about it and how she doesn’t have to take what anyone says to heart. I spoke to her about this very subject, because they don’t even realize that it’s a sickness.  Information is power.  She was relieved to talk about it. I think it’s so vital that we talk to our children and keep the doors to communication open.  When we do this, we are more aware of them and then can see the signs when they are troubled.

  • ……
wow, I am bummed out right now because of this video.

  • Oh, this is so sad. Why do we let younger children think so badly of their bodies?

  • how tragic.  heart-wrenchingly sad.

  • Oh my, an 8-year old??

  • @omgitsmackie -  You are right I guess I didn’t phrase that very well.  I was under quite alot of strain.

What I should have said was that she didn’t fit the profile as defined by most psychologists.  There had been no major changes or upheavals in her family life and no trigger was ever pinpointed.  Alot of kids have witnessed problems in a marriage or the loss of a family member.  Dana had not been subjected to any changes in her routine or life.

Of course it can happen to any child…that was the message we were trying to relay

  • i’ve always been a little sensitive about my weight, i’m so glad i didn’t really have the opportunity to not eat. my parents and i have always sat down to meals, and they keep such close tabs on me i don’t think i ever could have managed to slip by them.

i hope she never relapses. :/

  • i loved my food as a kid, but i do remember at the age of 9 up till 14 how i always had to make sure that my tummy wouldn’t be thicker than my hand span, so that i could easily grasp my sides and be assured that i wasn’t getting fatter

Dana is a gorgeous little girl, i hope she recovers well

  • 8 year olds? that is ridiculous.. that is.. unbelievable. oh my God..
this is really sad. you’d think only teenagers would care about their weight, but 8-10 year olds? no one should care about their weight no matter what age they are. this is ridiculous!
i mean i want to loose weight, but i’d never starve myself for it. i wouldn’t even throw up and other eating disorders. oh my God..

  • what! 8years old.. society in need of help

  • shes so adorable

  • How sad.  I hope Dana can continue to do well with her recovery.

  • that was really sad and even brought tears in my eyes at some point.
i’m gonna keep an eye on my little sisters now

  • Thanks so much for sharing this.

It’s truly terrifying… I’m making a mental note in my head for when I have kids of my own… no diets, no stupid “America’s Biggest Loser”

  • Wow, this is really sad. An eight year old should not be dealing with this.

  • Wow. That’s really depressing. Shit.

It’s sickening how much control the media has even over the youngest individuals.

  • That’s sad . I think it is even worse then when teens do it but 8 year olds.
