Just to clarify
I’m ProChoice and the reason I posted this is because I think it’s strange.

Whaaaat?!?!
whattttttttttttt?!?!?!!!
I guess suggestivetongue wasn’t joking… wow.
@StewieIsMyHero - did she post this already?
EH, you ever notice it’s always the Planned Parenthood in Indiana that is doing something controversial?
@SnippiesBlog - No, she did a post about how she was going to give out PP gift certificates to her skanky friends…lol
@StewieIsMyHero - oh ok lol
WTF??? certificates for murder?? wow
According to the article, these gift certificates are NOT just for abortions. That seems to be the ONLY thing people are focusing on. They want to promote health because of the problems with health insurance. PAP exams, breast exams, insurance CO pays and medication is what they intend these certificates are for.
I am pro-choice. I read the article, the WHOLE thing and just because Planned Parent Hood happens to perform abortions, that becomes the main focus. Wow, I’m actually shocked to see how many people are mislead.
@jewjewbeedragon - ya i saw that. im prochoice too. i just think its a little weird, thats all.
It is a little weird. I know that people are mainly focusing their attention to the “discount” when a girl/woman has an abortion but it’s also intended to be used for other medical examinations women go through. Like I said, it’s weird to see it. This is just another log of controversy thrown into the media/anti-abortion fire.
Something worse than Grandma’s fruitcake!!!
wow.. awkward.
My first thought would be; who in the world would I give such a gift? Just seems like it would be an awkward gift to either give or receive.
@jewjewbeedragon - Way to go! People can be so narrow-minded. Leave it to all the pro-lifers to ignore all the facts in favor of rationalizing their position.
they suck
@paperairplane_quotes - HERE HERE!
wow
No way!!!! WHAT????
Gosh—-I was going to surprise you with one of these too B!!! Now I need to get you something else for xmas!
@Millsanicole - hahaha damn
@jewjewbeedragon - I agree completely with you. I’m pro-choice (why does that continue to be synonymous with pro-abortion for pro-lifers?) Kudos to Planned Parenthood for trying to help.
@SnippiesBlog - I think I’m confused how you’re pro-choice, yet you’re, intentionally or not, propogating the agenda of the other side by posting this without any other commentary other than the incendiary headline. When I came here, I assumed you must be pro-life, bc there was no evidence in this entry to the contrary.
@daeshii - cause i still think its strange
Couldn’t it be used for anything planned parenthood offers? I think it could be good for a teen who needs birth control or something.
First…it would be nice if people would respect all sides. I’m pro-life, and i don’t think that pro-choice means pro-abortion, lumping all people together for narrow mindedness doesn’t make you any better than the people you criticize!
Second…a discount pap and breast exam…sounds like a cheap date if you ask me! LOL
@AlterEgo909 - yes it can, thats why i posted the whole story. it can be used for any of their services
@CiaoBella810 - thank you terri!
I thought you might get a little heat on this one!
Well…I’m from Indiana, and though I still find the whole concept strange, I think I can elborate. So ahem. The certificate is not intended for just aborotions, whether it ends up being gifted for one is another thing. These certificates can be used for contraceptives, exams, STD testing, breast exams, lady stuff, ect. As helpful as the Planned Parenthood is trying to be…I think it would be a strange gift to recieve not only because the notion of attaching the word ‘gift’ to any of this is weird but because I don’t want a pap smear for Christmas…it sends an awkward message. I hate that abortions are the only thing focused on. That’s not what it’s really about.
@Random_Goldfish - very well said, thank you
@buddly47 - oh im fine with heat. its good for my soul
That’s a little weird….
@SnippiesBlog - Why? I’m just curious. Would it be less strange if they added ‘abortion services not included’?
@CiaoBella810 - My apologies. I should’ve added ‘many but not all’ to that generalization.
I agree completely with the rest of your sentiment!
strange concept. i mean not what i would want to get a gift certificate for. no way.
It’s the gift that keeps on giving.
@daeshii - so you dont find it strange?
That’s so cool! =D
OMG please no!!
@SnippiesBlog - Nope. Moral/ethical issues aside, at the end of the day, an abortion is a medical procedure, yes? Then why would it be odd that it would be included in the discount? I would find it odd if they were hawking it, like ‘Get your discounted abortion! Right here! Do it now before it’s too late!’. That would be odd. But that it’s offered for any method of birth control and other health related services for people who may not be able to afford said services otherwise says more about helping and offering social assistance.
That the media has zero’d in on the ‘OMG, cheap abortions! Everyone’s going to get one now!’ is do mainly to the theory that bad news makes more money than good news. This story wouldn’t have gotten airtime or media notice if they’d talked about giving women a chance for early cervical/uterus cancer detection. Though, now more women know about what they’re doing.
I could see how this could be strange. I’ve never seen anyone give a gift certificate so someone can go get a checkup, pap smear/pelvic exam, or any of those things. If you’re close to someone and know they can’t afford these medical procedures/exams and you’d like to look out for their best interest, then it makes very fine sense.
@daeshii - well its just my opinion.
@daeshii - didnt we come to the understanding that it wasnt specifically referencing abortion? so then why are u still referencing it in the same terms as abortion…second, if it were a discount coupon for brain surgery i would feel the same way
That is amazing and I want them for Christmas. God, you can use them for birth control and checkups, not just abortions. Such an ignorant thing to say, “Gift Cards for Abortions”.
I have no health insurance and a family history of breast cancer. Many people are in my boat, and they’re not some sort of crazy baby-killing monsters.
Jeeze.
@lotta_valdez - who said crazy baby killing monster? who were you talking to?
@Ashlynette92 - nicely put.
I’m pro choice too but who thinks this is a good gift idea?!
“Oh that Tammy, she’s a slut. I’ll get her a gift certificate to planned parenthood.”
@CanadianConspiracy - lol
You are right….it is strange…
wow this is really crazy. thanks for sharing it, I found it interesting.
@SnippiesBlog - I’m not saying that you’re not entitled to your opinion, as I am to mine. I was just curious why you found it odd. And if it wasn’t an abortion issue, then your title is misleading. That’s all I’m saying. But at this point, I think I’m just irritating you, so I’ll leave it be.
Have a great day!
That is insane.
@jewjewbeedragon - Of course, the only reason young women EVER go into planned parenthood is to get abortions.
Gosh, did you not know? That’s what i go there for every 3 months. D:
I love pro-lifers. They’re a funny bunch.
It’s NOT an “abortion gift certificate.” It’s a certificate for the reproductive health service of your choice, be it an examination or testing or prescription or even termination, should you decide that’s the best option. All PP does is refuse to dictate how you should use the certificate. That’s between you and your doctor. As it should be.
@CiaoBella810 -
Agreed. I’m pro-choice, but I also understand where the majority of pro-lifers are coming from, not that I personally agree with what they say, of course. From reading your comment, not all pro-lifers should be lumped into a narrow-mindedness group of people, it would be wrong. But there are a few pro-lifers who CAN be narrow-minded, and this, in turn, makes others (including some pro-choice supporters) think that ALL pro-lifers are actually like that, when in reality, not all of them are.
I am completely ProLife. Number one: if you dont want to accidently have a child, dont have sex. Number two: if you get raped, have the child and put it up for adoption. It’s better than killing the child and not allowing it to have the same life you take for granted. Number three: I am in a gay relationship, and me and my partner would love to adopt one day. We do not have the luxury of producing children ourselves, and the ones that can take that for granted. ProChoice people have no respect for the unlived life because at the age one can choose what to believe in, they have already had the chance to expereice so much, and they dont care about others who have not had a chance at life. The child that is being killed did not ask to be brought into this world, that was solely the decision of someone else. So because it did not turn out the way you wanted, you are going to kill the child? I once read a t-shirt that said: Dear God, please send someone to cure all the diseases and problems in the world. God answers back, My child I have. But they keep getting aborted.
Everyone child deserves a chance at life. It makes no sense to me that a pregant woman can be in a wreck that was not her fault, and if the child dies, the other driver is charged with murder, but we have clinics open everyday that allow women to kill children. Whats the difference? One was on purpose, and the other was an accident. May the universe have pity on the souls of the people who abort children.
OYE! People are totally blowing these things out of proportion.
Yes, they are an odd gift, BUT it does not say anywhere on that certificate (FOR USE OF ABORTIONS ONLY). It’s a certificate to help women who can’t afford any and all healthcare PP offers, such as gynecological appointments and, yes, abortions. It’s promotional due to the fact that people aren’t doing much for themselves health care wise in this economy. Basically it’s a certificate for any service PP offers and abortion happens to be one of those and therefore it can be used for that. The employees doubt that will become the main use for the certificates if they are used for those at all. Don’t be so quick to dismiss it. Know the whole story first.
The idea of getting a gift card that could pay for an abortion IS strange. I mean.. wow. Good idea, but still.. very weird.
That is so sad. I also work for a ‘do-gooder’ organisation and even though it goes against every sensibility that I have (I am not pro -choice except in exceptional circumstances – I gave my child up for adoption) the people at that organisation probably sincerely believe that they are doing a good thing.
pls corrected me if im wrong..
1. it’s a certificate for murder, and
2. they gave discounts for abortions??
it’s a mad mad world _-_,,
@pillowpixies - you get it. thanks
I think it’s a great Idea. Some of thoser services are really expensive. Anthing that helps womens health alone I’m all for. Wouldn’t give it out for xmas… but hey that’s me and I don’t need to know if mama’s getting her pap smear.
This makes me happy.
@jendral - Not only used for abortion. It’s also used for feminine health services; birth control, breast and vaginal health exams.
Weird….when I think of gifts, abortion definitely isn’t the first thing that pops into my head.
@FreakSaphhic - Huh. Didn’t know that. Well that would be helpful!
well the fact that it could be used for killing an innocent little baby is just awful!!! Ya that would be just as awkward as getting underwear from your grandma for Christmas in front of your guy cousin (my grandma did that once!!). But seriously that someone would give that to anyone is just disgusting!! Why would you do that like ” o sorry i got you pregnant baby, but i got you something!” DISGUSTING!!!
That is…interesting…
A cloak for population control.
Well free birth control pills would be nice… but an abortion voucher? *shudders*
I’m ‘pro-choice’ but I don’t believe in abortions….
this is stupid… it’s obviously not meant for “just abortions” and is intended to encourage young women to seek health care since many DON’T… lovely how everyone tries to shoot down such a thing
Breast cancer for the win…?
@jendral - you’re wrong.
Does absolutely no one on this site use even half the brain cells God gave them?
It’s not a “gift certificate for murder”
if anything, it’s a gift certificate for EVIL EVIL THINGS like pap smears and birth control and checks for cervical and breast cancer.
Hahaha. Awesome. There are so many people in my life who need birth control. It’s the perfect gift, really.
